What “early years” means in our school

The Early Years at Vidya Siri International School covers four stages, each running through the academic year:

How a typical Early Years day looks

• Arrival and circle time — greetings, calendar, weather, song. Helps the child settle into the day.
• Structured play and activity zones — sand, water, blocks, role-play corner. Each child rotates through.
• Snack and rest break — supervised, with handwashing and quiet routines.
• Theme learning — language, numbers, or EVS theme woven into the day.
• Story / reading time — read-aloud, picture books, early phonics.
• Outdoor / movement — daily age-segmented outdoor play, supervised.
• Closing circle and pick-up — recap of the day, songs, calm transition to dismissal.

For Playgroup the day is shorter and the schedule is gentler; for UKG the day is longer and adds more reading and writing time.

Our approach to early learning

Play-based, language-rich

For young children, language and play are how learning happens. Our classrooms are intentionally noisy with conversation, song, story, and back-and-forth talk between teachers and children — the kind that builds vocabulary, confidence, and listening skills.

Age-segmented physical environments

Playgroup and Pre-Primary have their own classrooms, washrooms, and play areas — designed at child scale, with calmer routines and dedicated nap/quiet zones for younger learners.

Gentle CBSE-aligned introduction

From LKG onwards we begin a gentle, structured exposure to letters, numbers, and basic EVS — but always through games, stories, and visual material rather than worksheets. By UKG, children are reading short words, writing their names, and recognising numbers and basic shapes.

Trained early-years teachers

Our Early Years team is selected specifically for warmth, patience, and experience with this age group — not just academic background. The same primary teacher stays with the same group through the year, so the child has a stable relationship.

School readiness — what UKG prepares your child for

By the time a child completes UKG at Vidya Siri, they’re typically ready for the transition into Class 1 in the following ways:

• Comfortable spending a full school day with peers and structure.
• Listens to instructions and follows simple multi-step directions.
• Recognises and writes letters and numbers (with growing fluency).
• Reads short, familiar words and sentences.
• Holds and uses a pencil correctly with growing control.
• Asks questions, expresses needs and ideas in age-appropriate English.
• Participates in group activities and basic team play.
• Manages routines like washroom, snack, and tidying up independently.

Safety and routines in the Early Years

Safety for young children is a daily practice rather than a one-time setup. Our Early Years routines include:

• Supervised drop-off and pick-up — children only released to approved guardians listed at admission.
• Visitor controls — every adult on campus is signed in and supervised.
• Trained staff and basic first-aid readiness — incident response protocols rehearsed regularly.
• Clean, child-friendly washrooms with supervision and regular hygiene checks.
• Allergy and dietary awareness — parent-provided information flows to teachers.
